A word from Section Adviser Mark Matthews Sr.

Dear W3S,

Thanks for a great year. We got a lot accomplished, we formed a new section, lost old friends and gained new friends, choose a section name and we had a great conclave. These are just some of the things we got done. I look forward to the New Year with great expectations.

This coming year will be Scouting’s 100th anniversary with many events throughout the year. Some of the things to watch for – the BSA float in the Tournament of Roses Parade, there will be a West Coast Mini Jamboree to be held in Pleasanton in April of 2010, the National Jamboree will be held in July and August, among the many things happening this year.

Don’t forget that we have scholarships for attending the OA Trail Crew, National Sea Base, Northern Tier and the Canadian Adventure. Our Section's secretary has already signed up for the OA Trail Crew at Philmont. Who else will explore these great adventures?

Alan Camarillo our Section Chief is always looking for Vice Chiefs for the different program areas of the section. If you are interested please contact him.

Our Section Secretary is working hard to bring us a new section website and he hopes to use this as our main source of communication. Any ideas or suggestions please contact Indy.

As the leadership in our councils we need to make sure all our units are strong and going camping. Lodges are encouraged to be an integral part of district camporees, helping to get out a where to go camping book, participating on the council Camping Committee Youth or adult can be on this committee, Is you Lodge chief part of the Council Executive board many council they are a member of the board – make sure your lodge chief goes to at least two of these meetings a year. Note that in most council’s the lodge chief is the only youth member to be able to VOTE at the council executive board.

As your Section Adviser I am always open to hear suggestions comments, criticism, complaints (hopefully not to many) or anything else you wish to talk about whether from a youth or adult.
